Sorry to everyone back on the East Coast, but the weather and awesomely long post-day light savings days have been absolutely perfect here. So perfect, in fact, that I finally made it to the track for an interval workout for the first time!
I was planning to do one of the track interval routines I shared back in February, but the sprints tired me out a lot more quickly than I thought they would. I blame the jet lag. So for today's Workout Wednesday, here's the easy track interval workout I did yesterday:
In other running news, one of my coworkers is running the Santa Barbara Chardonnay 10-Miler on April 19th and is looking for race buddies. I'm all about making buddies here, plus the course is gorgeous, supposedly fairly flat, AND there is a wine tasting afterwards. So even though I still haven't run a 10K despite my training plan and have never run more than 5 miles at a time, I'm seriously considering running a 10-miler in one month. Mostly because of the wine.
Further boosting my confidence in my ability to do this and not die, my weekly mileage for Run This Year has been fairly close to what's recommended in the first half of this 10 week novice 15K/10 mile training program. So, unless I come to my senses, here's my plan for the next 5 weeks:
Q: What's the least amount of time you've ever had to prepare for a race? Can I really do this or is it just the malaria meds talking?

Just do it!!! New friends + wine + forced exercise!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes that about sums up my main motivators. Strongly considering it!
DeleteThanks Amanda! I saved the track workout on to my phone. As soon as this weather breaks I'm hitting the track again. It does wonders for my speed and I haven't been hitting it as hard as I need to. But you've reignited the flame, thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh yay glad you liked it! I used to run all my intervals on the treadmill, but now that I don't have access to one I'm loving the whole track thing :)
DeleteWine is motivation enough for me! Dooooo it!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks Alexis! It's a pretty strong motivator for me too :)
DeleteYou can do it! My first race (outside of high school and probably 10 years later) was a half marathon.
ReplyDeleteOh man that's really impressive and inspiring!
DeleteI have just dropped into a race but it was either a 5K or 10K. No training necessary for me at least. If I were you - train and just do it. You got time especially with all that lovely weather. Dropping in from #wowlinkup.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! Impressed that you can do 10K with no training. Sure am glad I have a month :)
DeleteOoooh you had me at wine! That sounds like fun and a great way to make new friends. Based on the running you have been doing and general fitness, you can definitely do it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the vote of confidence, Jenny! The wine definitely does help ;)
DeleteI would love to run on a gorgeous track like that and I love the workout! I'm running a half marathon on May 4th and would have only trained for 7.5 weeks by the time race day rolls around. My first week of training I really pushed myself and felt a bit more sore than usual, but now that I just finished my third week of training, I'm feeling much better. I would definitely run the 10 miler and only because of the wine tasting! LOL! Have a great weekend!

Haha yes the wine tasting is a great motivator for me for sure! Good luck on your half training!
DeleteThis post inspired me to run/walk but on treadmill in one hour. I'm confused about one statement, you said you considering doing the 10 mile in April. Are you talking about the 10K race or running another race that is 10 mile? A 10k is only 6.2 miles. Dropping in from #wowlinkup
ReplyDeleteHaha yea Sheila I would be confused too. I was planning to make a 10K my next race, seeing as how I've only run two 5Ks so far. But this 10-miler in April came up so I might just do it, even though I think I'll definitely be feeling the extra 4 miles lol. Thanks for stopping by!
